Global Warming

Global warming has become the topic of scientific debate that has generated the most hype over the past decade. It seems that every generation has one of these issues such as an ice age or acid rain. Furthermore, each one of these problems follows the same trend. One side of the debate becomes popular, and thats the side that gets all the funding. Its a very biased and unreliable problem.

In the case of global warming, the scientific community is favoring the side that says human carbon dioxide production is causing the earth's temperatures to rise to such a degree that it will be harmful to the world as we know it. This theory quickly became popular and all kinds of research was soon to follow. People began asking questions like what countries contribute to global warming the most, are the polar ice caps going to melt, and how will the effect the weather? These questions are interesting and generate lots of income. Unfortunately, that makes it very unpopular to ask the question, what if global warming is not necessarily a big problem (or even real)? Scientific journals are typically monitored and reviewed for publishing, and because of this, people asking the unpopular questions find it hard, if not impossible, to gain a foothold in the debate. Because of this is makes it very hard for non scientists to find reliable information on the topic.

The above link is an article that portrays the other side of the argument. It has a condescending tone that indicates that the people in favor of global warming want it to be real for the opportunity that it provides them.

Up the Yangtze

Up the Yangtze provides us with an interesting perspective into the lives of rural Chinese citizens. The disparagements between Chinese policy and American policy becomes very apparent.. Subliminally, we can infer from this movie that the Chinese have an overbearing control of there media. This results in gross corruption of a government that cannot be held accountable for the promises and actions that the take on.

Hawaii Sustainability Plan

Islands have to be much more conscientious than many countries when it comes to sustainability. Even Hawaii, being US state, is a good example of this.
